Encampment Commander

Lt Col R. Douglas Crockett

 

 

R. Douglas Crockett is the Commander, of the 15th Kansas Wing Training Group, the Headquarters unit for the Kansas Wing Winter Encampment. Lt. Col. Crockett was appointed by Colonel Mark Lahan, Kansas Wing Commander.

 

As the Training Group Commander, Crockett is responsible for the successful planning and execution of the 2023 Kansas Wing Encampment. His role includes selecting and supervising the senior staff, approving plans and budgets, and setting the overall goal for the activity. Crockett is responsible for the safety, fair treatment, and morale of all participants, and for ensuring that the Encampment operates in accordance with CAP regulations and procedures.

 

Crockett joined CAP in 2009 in the Kansas City Composite Squadron and served as the Emergency Services and Health Services Officer. In 2012, he helped form the Heartland Cadet Squadron in Lenexa, Kansas where he served as Squadron Commander from May 2016 to October 2018. Crockett was appointed to his current position as Kansas Wing Director of Cadet Programs in May 2020. Crockett completed Level 5 of the CAP Professional Development program in May 2020 and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in September 2020.

 

On the civilian side, Crockett retired as a Captain from the Overland Park Fire Department. He previously served as the Deputy Chief of Merriam Fire Department until its merger with Overland Park. Crockett is a certified Emergency Medical Technician – Basic. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management and Leadership. He and his wife, Patricia, both serve together in CAP and have a son who also served as a Cadet in CAP.
